Oh my goodness, Google is in an uproar over "flerg", and all of it's variant spellings, including "flurg, flirge, flerge, flerg, flirj, flurg, flirge, flerge, and flerj"!
I did a bit of research myself to find out what all the buzz was about and after a long and winding road (several of the spellings have their own definitions), I discovered that flerg is the spelling we're looking for, and it means "shrunken erection" but can also be used as "erection shrinker" or "one who shrinks erections".
What can we attribute the all the sudden buzz to, you may ask?
Mass media, of course! Saturday Night Live had a skit featuring Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton, in which the word is used, which caused all the iSavy folks who watch the show to immediately Google it for a definition.
Into Search Engine Optimization, and want to milk this for all it's worth? Do a post on flerg on your blog and watch your traffic soar!
The idea is that people will come to your site because of the buzzword, and stay because they found something else they like, which causes them to continue visiting well into the future.
My personal blog gets between 13 and 50 its a day. Not bad for a multi-topic blog that is usually updated about twice a week lately (more frequent now that I'm settled in at the new job), but when I posted about the meaning of flerg yesterday, all of those numbers started to look like the BASELINE on my traffic graph for Analytics! My traffic for the day of my post had a massive jump to just a few shy of 700 visits!
If you don't feel like dedicating an entire post to it, you can still increase your traffic by working one or more of the spellings into your regular posting. (Example: Looking to purge or flush out a bad habit? Use the word "flurge" instead.)
I'm still getting rapid traffic for this, and we can likely expect a ride of about a week on this one word alone, so get to posting!
