Once, when Guruji and I were driving, he turned the radio up really loud. I asked him if I could turn it down as I was having difficulty hearing him talk. He told me, "The radio is like your mind. I'm always talking to you only your mind is chattering away so loudly that you don't hear my voice."
I met a young girl who asked me what I was getting from my relationship with the Guru. I said, "A Silent mind." Her response was a shocked one, "Why would you want that!"
The Guru is always guiding and directing...'go left', don't go there...go here, do this...don't do that.' In my youth, the last thing I wanted was to be told what to do. I always had a better idea! I knew it all. I wanted to make my own mistakes. Big waste of time, that idea. Now in the later part of my life, I found that the Guru is my friend who only want the best for me. To realize my full potential and the reason for my being on this planet. What a waste to drop this body and never realize that.
The Guru is my very own self. The one that knows me better than I do. If I am unable to access him on the Inner then, out of kindness, he manifests externally in a shape and form that I can interact with. I could stumble on blindly for the rest of my life, wasting precious time. No one knows the hour of their death, yet we live like there's always a tomorrow. How many people have set the alarm clock at night and in the morning there was no one there to turn it off?
There are so many so-called (half-cooked) 'Gurus'. That word has become a 'buzzword' in this day and age. Don't accept anyone blindly as a Guru. Examine him..his actions, do they match up to his words. Does he charge $$$$ to sit with him (usually in a large group) and get knowledge from him. Do you have to keep coming back to him to get 'more?'(and pay more!)
