But someone just rather painfully reminded me of something today.

First, I have to tell you that I have been looking forward to my 40th birthday for several years now. I know, haven't I already told you that I'm odd?? I have been looking forward to it for years and I keep flat-out telling my other half that I want a surprise party with our friends. Since my normal reaction to a surprise party is to blink and then run the other way or open a hole in the earth in front of me and disappear, she seems to be having a difficult time remembering that I WANT one for my 40th. Just not at a restaurant.

Anyhow.

I know the "big election" is this November. I know it's on a Tuesday. I just didn't realize that it is on

Bloody hell.

The last time I had an election fall on my birthday, it was 1980, I was 12 and Ronald Reagan was elected (instead of my much beloved Jimmy Carter). I was devastated, as the year before on my birthday, the Iranians took 50 Americans hostage. Not a great way to start my adolescence.

So here's the deal. Let's pick a really really really really good president this time and maybe this election will be the great start to my middle age?????

Dammit all to hell anyway. My 40th, overshadowed by politicians! Bah!
