I don't know. I thought that Apple signed with AT&T because they were they only company that would give Apple complete control of the phone. It's also the largest carrier in the U.S. Apple probably wanted as many buyers as possible. I could be wrong. I believe you can buy up to 5 iPhones now. I don't know what was up with the cash only thing. That kinda pissed me off too. As far as features, Apple has given the iPhone an update about once a month so applications/features that are not present now will be soon. Some are already available by third party. The only way buyers will get the iPhone on other U.S. carriers anytime soon (several years) is by hacking it or if AT&T happens to do something so outrageous that Apple backs out of the agreement (not likely).

Overall, I'm happy with my iPhone and haven't had any problems with AT&T.
